New Year Celebrations in Looe

Known for its fancy dress tradition, fireworks and New Year’s Day swim, Looe knows how to celebrate New Year in style.

Here at Polraen in the Looe Valley, you can enjoy the quiet cosy comfort of a historic Cornish licensed country house. Relax in a spacious guest lounge, dining room conservatory and benefit from plenty of onsite parking.  Wake from a peaceful night’s sleep to a sumptuous breakfast in the conservatory overlooking beautiful gardens.

Yet you can also reach Looe in minutes to join the New Year celebrations. Polraen is served by bus, Looe Valley Line train and taxis.

Looe’s New Year Fancy Dress and Fireworks

Fireworks New Year Polraen Country House

Looe’s fancy dress and fireworks tradition turns the whole town into one brilliant party. You really are a bystander if you’re not in costume. There are two firework displays set off from the Banjo Pier. One at 6 pm to cater for families and of course the big one at midnight. Looe Beach is the busy venue due to its proximity to the town but one of the best vantage points is at Rock Towers at West Looe overlooking the river mouth and bay.

We recommend booking a table at a restaurant so you have somewhere in town as a base and booking taxis in advance. We are happy to assist with reservations.

Of course, if you want to see in the New Year quietly after a busy Christmas, you can spend it quietly at Polraen. Feel free to relax and recharge in the guest lounge or bring in your own New Year’s Eve picnic to dine in the conservatory. (We do not offer evening meals on New Year).

Looe’s New Year’s Day Swim

Now a popular annual event in Looe, the New Year’s Day Swim raises money for the RNLI. You can swim, wade or dabble a toe, wear what you want although fancy dress is preferred.  Everyone is welcome. You are required to register for this event and pay a donation on the day.

Of course, enjoying the event as a spectator is probably more fun than swimming in the sea in winter! You may find it a challenge after a night out on the town, and prefer the more leisurely pace at Polraen.

Whether you want to celebrate or relax at Polraen Country House on a New Year Short Break in Looe, we look forward to welcoming you.
