At Polraen Country House, you can enjoy hotel style facilities surrounded by glorious Cornish countryside just 5 minutes from Looe, with easy access from onsite parking, including a cozy fully licensed evening bar, guest lounge and spacious dining room conservatory overlooking the large sunny garden.

Bar and Guest Lounge

In the sociable atmosphere of our cozy bar, sample local real ale or try hand crafted cider and apple juice from Cornish Orchards in the Looe Valley. If you prefer, relax on leather sofas in the comfort of the guest lounge watching TV or choose from books and magazines and family-oriented pursuits including board games.

Dining Room Conservatory

Overlooking the large garden, it’s a perfect setting for breakfast and evening dinner and an ideal venue for small weddings, family celebrations and functions.

Garden

Enjoy a country garden view with sweeping lawns bordered by colourful flower beds. With a choice of terraced seating areas, you can find the ideal place to relax with a cool drink, while the enclosed garden offers plenty of space for children to play without disturbing others.

A birdwatchers’ delight, the garden is visited by a wide variety of birds throughout the year, but with the welcome absence of sea gulls! Spot buzzards hovering above the hilltops, a pheasant strolling across the grass, and house martins attempting a rent free summer.

On site parking

Polraen’s car park is immediately opposite the hotel separated by a narrow B road. We can also provide secure parking for a limited number of motorbikes/bicycles in our private courtyard. Free parking for a boat and trailer can also be accommodated with advance notice.

Access

The convenience of level access from a large onsite car park is particularly appreciated by those with restricted mobility or with young children. There are two steps to the main front door with a hand rail.

Polraen welcomes guests with ‘restricted’ mobility who can manage one flight of stairs (all bedrooms are located on the first floor). A ramp from the garden entrance via the French doors allows wheel chair access to all public areas on the ground floor.

Public Transport

Few country house hotels in such a peaceful setting offer such a range of public transport options.

Train: Arrive by train from across the UK and we can collect you from Sandplace Station (4 minutes walk from Polraen). The Looe Valley Line provides a scenic 5 minute train journey into Looe. Cheap day return tickets are available on the train to the Eden Project, Falmouth, Penzance, St Ives, Truro and Plymouth.

Bus: An hourly service to Looe, the South West Coast Path, Polperro, Liskeard and Bodmin Moor.

Walking: We loan local guide books and Ordnance Survey Maps and can arrange escorted walks with a local guide. (We do not encourage guests to walk along the winding A road into Looe).

Family Facilities

We welcome guests of all ages, providing child friendly facilities for families with children.

Laundry: Washing can be undertaken on request (service charge applies) while iron and ironing boards are available for your use free of charge.

Environmentally Aware

It is our aim to be increasingly environmentally friendly. We adopt recycling and apply housekeeping routines and make purchasing decisions which reflect care and consideration for our environment. We have been awarded the ‘Green Acorn Award’ by the South East Cornwall Tourism Association, recognising the improvements we have made to reduce the impact of our business and our guests on the environment.

We are active members of the Looe Voluntary Marine Conservation Area and the Cornwall Wildlife Trust and will be delighted to help you discover the many highlights of Looe’s rich marine heritage.
