Looe’s Cornish traditions

Cornish fishing traditions and Cornwall’s tin mining heritage greatly influence the festivals, fairs and street parades held throughout the county. During the long days of summer, coastal towns like Looe and Polperro celebrate their close affinity with the sea at festivals and regattas. For New Year, Looe has an incredible reputation for fancy dress and fireworks. And in recent years, has gained renown for its Looe music festival.
In Looe, you can also be privileged to encounter Cornwall’s incredible wildlife on boat trips and rockpool rambles led by expert local volunteers. Or watch the redwing sail boats and Cornish rowers in traditional vessels, known as ‘gig racing’. During school holidays there’s plenty of family fun. Expect Looe’s pirates, wenches and buccaneers to recreate the days when smugglers and pirates wandered the streets. Read our blogs to find out What’s On in Looe and when.
