Plan your stay – What’s On in Looe and South East Cornwall.

The Winter Months in Cornwall can offer a great time to relax and recharge your batteries. And you’d be surprised to find out how much is going on.  Farmers markets,  live entertainment in pubs and venues such as Carnglaze Caverns, the Hall for Cornwall, Truro Cathedral, Plymouth Pavilions, the Theatre Royale, ice skating at the Eden Project.  Take a look at some of our suggestions using the link above ‘What’s On in Looe and South East Cornwall’.

At Polraen you can leave the crowds behind in town and enjoy the beauty and tranquility of our peaceful Looe Valley location - parking conveniently in a spacious car park, relaxing in Polraen’s hotel style facilities set in a landscaped garden just 5 minutes from town. Over the winter months, you can return to a peaceful retreat with high quality ensuite accommodation, convenient onsite parking and free WiFi.  Perhaps even have the entire country house to yourself! but with breakfast served, the washing up done and evening drinks served in the lounge on request.  And if you happen to be around on a Sunday, don’t miss rubbing shoulders with the locals at our Traditional Sunday  Roast lunch. The welcome is warm friendly and relaxed….so that you can. Our ‘home from home’ can be yours over a relaxing shortbreak in Looe….

Nestling peacefully in the Looe Valley just 2 miles from the historic fishing town of Looe, Polraen Country House enjoys a magical tranquillity that you won’t find anywhere in town. Surrounded by glorious Cornish countryside against an amphitheatre of wooded slopes,  buzzards hover above the valley, the odd pheasant strolls across the garden and the garden is full of colour - the view at breakfast from the conservatory is stunning.

Set up for the day with a great breakfast, you can reach the sea in 5 minutes, walk in the Looe Valley or on the South West Coast Path to Polperro or depart from convenient onsite parking for a day of touring the sights. From Polraen, we also have easy options for exploring locally without the stress of driving a car. The 5 minute journey from our location at Sandplace into Looe is a highlight for many who stay at Polraen, as you can spot the hotel (a bit like the Railway Children!) and see wildlife and birds from the train as it skirts the river bank just above the water line into Looe. Services run through the winter except there is no train service on a Sunday.

If you prefer not to drive to Cornwall, you can arrive by mainline train from across the UK to Liskeard and catch the Looe Valley Branch Line to Sandplace where we can collect you from the station. An hourly bus service from the hotel runs to the pretty Cornish fishing towns and villages of Looe, and Polperro.

Back at Polraen, you can relax in the comfortable guest lounge, watch tv, read a book and enjoy the facilities of a large country house – with a bar and enjoy excellent local produce served for evening dinner in the conservatory with a country garden view!
