Helping you during your stay
We do not describe Polraen as a ‘disabled friendly hotel’ as none of our bedrooms are wheelchair accessible. However many features make it perfectly suited to those with ‘restricted mobility’ who can manage one flight of stairs.
Easy Parking on Arrival
Located in the hamlet of Sandplace in the Looe Valley, 2 miles from Looe, accommodation at Polraen Country House benefits from being in a flat quiet location. Our large car park has space for 20 vehicles. It is immediately opposite the hotel separated by a narrow B road, allowing easy access to the house and gardens.
Our rural location has no street lighting, but arrivals may pull up right outside the hotel entrance to unload luggage as the road is unrestricted. There are 2 steps to the front door with a wrought iron hand rail on the left. We offer assistance on arrival and departure to carry luggage.
WheelChair Access
Wheelchair access is available to public areas of the hotel on the ground floor only. The 6-metre route is via a paved incline through the garden gate to the patio. You then proceed through french doors to the lounge and conservatory/along the hall to the bar.
All bedrooms are on the first floor and there is no lift. However, we welcome many guests who are able to climb a typical domestic staircase to the bedrooms, yet have mobility restrictions. Invariably, they find Polraen an ideal place to stay, given the ease of access.
Public Transport
Few country house hotels in such a rural setting offer both bus and train links to Looe, Liskeard and beyond. If you hold a senior citizen bus pass, you can travel free on Bus 73 which stops right outside the hotel going to Looe, Polperro and Liskeard.

Bedrooms
Our 5 ensuite rooms are located on the first floor sharing a common landing. The wide staircase with a bannister rail ascending on the right reaches a mezzanine landing after 12 steps with another 4 to follow (16 steps in total).
All bedrooms have wall to wall short pile carpets whilst each ensuite facility has non slip vinyl flooring. Our two superior rooms offer more spacious accommodation with beds arranged in a choice of either superking or twin configuration. These rooms also have high-backed chairs as well as window seats. All rooms have HD flat-screen TVs with FreeSat service.
Bedding: Duvets as standard but blankets and/or non-feather pillows can be requested when booking.
Ensuite Facilities: All bedrooms have ensuite shower cubicles with non-slip bases or shower mats supplied, requiring a small step over the perimeter into the shower. Our superior rooms, Wisteria and Oak, have larger shower rooms. Oak is 1.5m and a shower seat is available on request.
Public areas
All public areas including bar, conservatory, dining room and guest lounge, are on the ground floor on one level. All rooms are carpeted with the exception of the dining room conservatory and bar which have a wooden floor.
The Guest lounge has soft leather sofas.
High back chairs are available on request.
Garden: The garden is largely grassed with a large flat lawn. Extended parts of the garden feature steep slopes. Paths between flower beds are covered in medium-size loose decorative stone. A paved seating area near the conservatory has wooden tables and chairs.
Food Allergies
We can cater for special diets. Please advise us when making your booking if you are vegetarian, dairy intolerant or require a gluten-free breakfast. Please tell us about any allergies again on arrival. All meals are waitress service direct to the table.
