Walking and cycling in Cornwall

near looe in south east cornwall

Walking in South East Cornwall offers such variety. In the short distance it takes to leave the coast behind in Looe and climb up to Bodmin Moor, there is an immense contrast in scenery.

Looe is flanked by rugged Cornish coastline, so you can enjoy clifftop walks on the South West Coast Path. Beside the Looe River, you can amble in ancient woodlands at Kilminorth and Trenant, where wildlife including otters, kingfishers, herons and swans flourish in the undisturbed habitat.

As you explore on foot in the two Looe river valleys, you can hike woodland trails through Forestry Commission land,  strolling beside babbling streams. Climb out of the Looe Valley and you reach villages like Duloe where you can see east to Kit Hill and Dartmoor or west to the clay pits of St Austell. Keep climbing and the scenery takes a dramatic change on Bodmin Moor, where sheep and ponies roam among the gorse bush and the skyline is dotted with tin mines and granite tors.
